Steven Anggrek (b. 1982, Aru Islands) is a visual artist based in Zurich whose practice moves between analog photography and digitally generated imagery, text, drawing, and figurative painting. Tracing from his own writings such as poems, fragments, and narrative sketches, he also creates moving-image works that extend the emotional and conceptual textures of his text. Working with both human and constructed subjects, he explores intimacy, authorship, and the ways identity is shaped, stylized, or negotiated through systems of control.

Drawing has become an increasingly important part of his practice — particularly his clean, vector‑like depictions of queer bodies, which distill the figure into deliberate, stylized gestures. This work forms the foundation for a forthcoming series of paintings, extending his inquiry into how the body is designed and visually arranged across mediums.

Together, these modes — photographic, generated, drawn, and painted — create a fluid portrait language that examines representation in a post‑photographic era.

Anggrek is also the founder of Anggrek Agency, a space committed to supporting queer, Asian, and female voices in contemporary art, and the co‑founder of Bahay Contemporary, a traveling platform dedicated to emerging artists in Switzerland.
